Art behind Poetry

Poetry is a fluent combination of words. It is a form of art that pleases the aesthetical senses. It is very different from other pieces of writing. In a poem, language is used to convey abstract ideas. Similar to other forms of art, a poem also tells a story but the interesting part is that a poem is able to narrate a story without having to be a long piece of writing. It uses minimal words to paint a picture in your mind. A poem uses words in such a way that it is often left to the reader’s imagination to understand the meaning of it. People write poetry to express their emotions, it doesn’t have to be something deep. There are many poems that are funny, short and sweet. But it is an expression of emotion nonetheless. People have expressed their emotions using poetry as long as humans can remember. People have used poetry to illustrate religious happenings such as the story of Ramayana in the Hindu Dharam. Similarly, verses from the Bible and the Quran are also written in a poetic manner. Poetry has been infused in our roots. We have learned many world famous poems from the first day of school. Poetry is a part of many cultures. Cultures such as the British have poems that show their culture, for example, the great poem “London Bridge is falling down” and the “Waltzing Matilda” this poem represents the civil war in the region of Australia. This poem was later turned into the unofficial national anthem of Australia.

Poetry can be of any length and any topic. There are no rules to writing poetry. It is often confused that poetry must have words that rhyme. But it is a myth, there are several poems that don’t follow any pattern at all. Yet they are still called poems.
However, there are some writing patterns poets follow. These are called poetic devices, these devices are used to bring rhythm to the poem. For example repetition, alliteration and imagery. All of these devices are used to make a poem interesting to its readers.  There are many different types of poems that have different purposes and structures. For example, a Haiku is a poem that is three lined and each line has a number of syllables. The first one must have 5 the second one 7 and the third one 3. This poem is from an Asian origin. Contemporary poetry now does not follow rules and is called ‘free verse’.

A poet puts a lot of effort into a poem. He/she bleeds emotion from the pen onto the paper. It is often abstract and does not tell things how it is. A poem is beautified, adorned with fancy poetic words. But it does have a message, it depends on the reader to deduce what the poet has tried to convey. It is often a requirement of teachers when you study different poems to write a paper on them. In that paper, you have to critically analyze the poem and explain what the poet was trying to say. For people who are not very apt at writing, this can be a problem. You shouldn’t risk your grade by submitting a substandard paper, instead, you can get help from an academic writing service.
